Employers gain a competitive edge at Penticton’s Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum

8/13/2019

PENTICTON, BC, Aug. 14, 2019 – If you’re an Okanagan business interested in boosting your profile to attract your ideal skilled employees, reserve your spot at the Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in Penticton.

Hiring methods have changed significantly in recent years. Not only are employers looking further afield to fill vacant positions, job seekers are conducting more online research into potential employers before applying. The Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum will address these changes and give attendees tools to find their competitive edge.

Through interactive sessions with HR experts, you’ll learn how to define your company culture and position your business to attract your ideal candidates. Hear about hiring and training incentives for employers and learn how to connect with valuable labour markets such as graduate students, co-op programs and skilled newcomer or foreign talent. For a nominal fee of $100, participants can also opt to film a recruitment video on-site, with help from expert coaches every step of the way.

“In today’s virtual world, having a video that demonstrates your company culture can be a hugely beneficial marketing tool. We’re offering employers the opportunity to create professional videos at low cost, which they can use to promote their business workplaces on social media, their website and on recruitment sites such as StartHereOkanagan.com,” said event organizer Jennifer Vincent, who oversees Special Projects in Economic Development with the City of Penticton.

The video package is only being offered to a limited number of participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. To book, purchase your tickets on Eventbrite including the video option. City staff will be in contact to collect images, logos and other details ahead of the event.
The Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum, brought to you by the City of Penticton’s Economic Development department, will bring together participants from throughout the region to work toward same-day goals. Its jam-packed agenda spans two topic streams, offering relevant programming for participants from diverse sectors.

“Hiring and Workforce Housing are such intricately-linked topics, it made sense to bring them together under one roof for this forum,” added Vincent. “The day is designed such that attendees can choose a single theme, or flow back and forth between them as best suit their needs.”

Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum Brings Together Regional Changemakers

8/13/2019

PENTICTON, BC, July 25, 2019 – Connect in Penticton at the Hiring & Workforce Housing Forum on Sept. 18, 2019, a ground-breaking event that aims to tackle some of the most complex challenges facing our workplaces today.

Hear from leading experts, take part in interactive workshops, be inspired by the latest concepts, uncover opportunities and accomplish outcomes. This full-day event, organized by the City of Penticton’s Economic Development department, will bring together South Okanagan employers with people who can make change happen.

“The issues of hiring and workforce housing are intricately linked to recruitment and expansion. In our tightening housing market, many employers cite a shortage of suitable housing as one of the major barriers facing recruitment,” said Andrew Kemp, Economic Development Specialist with the City of Penticton. “We don’t foresee this problem as fixing itself. By bringing together the major parties under one roof, we can spark some new solutions. We’re excited to see which ideas take shape by day’s end.”

To attract great people, we need great places to live. Together, let’s work toward a solution.
Join investors, developers, planners, planners, property managers, real estate and mortgage specialists, various levels of government and governing bodies, economic development specialists and other regional changemakers all under one roof. This event is also relevant to those involved in education, regulation, housing, business support and development.

Gain insight to position your organization to attract your ideal recruits. Learn about hiring incentives for ‘untapped’ labour markets. Ramp up your online presence on the free recruitment portal StartHereOkanagan.com. Or opt to film your own recruitment video on-site with assistance from professional coaches, for a nominal fee.

Keynote speaker Brock Dickinson, a renowned economic development expert, Entrepreneur in Residence and adjunct professor with the University of Waterloo, will speak about the challenges ahead for employers in today’s increasingly competitive hiring marketplace.

Currently confirmed speakers also include Cori Maedel of Jouta HR Consulting, Jennifer Tedman-Jones of Mitacs at UBC Okanagan, Heather Michaud of Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada, Aireen Luney of the Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology, and Jonathan Page, an award-winning expert in online recruitment and President of Careerleaf, which created the StartHereOkanagan.com platform.
